Joe Wilcox: Miracle on 34th Street Well I have to say that I really do love my Canon 5D and again want to thank the folks at B&H; Photo for providing me a very positive buying experience. The camera is fantastic and I’m really enjoying it. I feel like I got a great deal from B&H; as well.
Joe Wilcox also has a post out praising B&H; Photo and recounts a story where when they were out of stock on an item they actually referred a friend of Joe’s to a competitor, Adorma, who had the item in stock. It’s this kind of service that will keep the repeat business coming back again and again.
I also received a note today from one of my Flickr contacts, DCVoyager, who wrote in part, “After reading your story about B&H; and DPR’s review of the 5D, I moved on it. Considered buying it at full price at Penn Camera because they are local and very reliable — and because I could have the camera today. Then I thought about the sales tax vs. shipping and called B&H.; Great to deal with. Very straightforward and professional. Didn’t try to sell me anything I hadn’t asked for.
It arrives Friday.”
I have spent close to $1500 w/ B&H; and each order has been mint. They are true pros.

I’ve been using b&h; for years.. great store, great online site, great people to talk too. Jewish owned so you have to be careful of things like jewish holidays and early closing on fridays but otherwise I check to see if they have it first constantly.

If you ever go to NYC, you must visit B&H.; It’s not a store. It’s an experience.
With big purchases like this, it’s helpful to buy from vendors that has a good 30-day return policy. A few years ago, when I bought my D70, i had an issue with the button within a week of getting it, and they (A different vendor than B&H;) replaced the camera with a different one. Even sent a RMA UPS label that didn’t cost anything for me to return it.
B&H; and Ritz are also good gauges for what the ‘going’ rate for something is. If you look at those sites, and somone you’ve never heard of before has a $1,000 item for $200 less, there’s probably something wrong with that. I know sometimes Amazon or some other big-name store will have good deals from time to time. But, if you don’t recognize the name of the company, don’t buy from them.
B&H; is great, but Adorama and B&H; are closely related. I think the owners are brothers or cousins or something. So when B&H; refers you to a “competitor”, that might be a little bit of an exaggeration.

I’ve been shopping with B&H; for several years now, and have had nothing but positive experiences with them. They are the true pros. They know how to treat customers. As a pro video and TV guy, I like being able to call them up and know I’m talking to someone I can trust.
Hey, Don’t worry about buying from B&H.; I have purchased a 1D MKII, Sekonic 558r, Complete ProFoto Light Kit, and L Lenses from them just this year. I have already spent WELL over $10K with them and I am ordering a new IS Lens from them next week!
