New Cranes Arrive at the Port of Oakland

Crane Delivery

Earlier this morning the Zhen Hua 15 ship carrying 253-foot tall cranes passed under both the Golden Gate and the Bay Bridge. The bridges reportedly only had 10 feet to spare and were part of a coordinated effort that involved Cal Trans, the ship and both bridges. The three new cranes were headed to the Port of Oakland from Shanghai China.

  1. Wow. Not much freeboard on that ship. That is a long way across a really big ocean. Wondering about how much ballast is in the hold, and if they had to take on ballast to lower the ship to pass under the bridges?

  2. I didn’t even know you could transport crane erect on a boat like that. What a shot! Thanks for enlightening me on that subject.
