Photobucket Dominates MySpace

Mashable has an interesting post out regarding photo hosting on MySpace. It’s something that I’ve known for a while, but they try to quantify it in numbers. And that is that Photobucket is absolutely dominating as the photo hosting service of choice for the MySpace crowd.

Mashable randomly sampled over a million MySpace accounts to see where people were hosting their images and 68% of the market used PhotoBucket. I met Julie Blaustein and Kurt Collins from Photobucket at Mike Arrington’s TechCrunch7 party a few months back and they told me then that Photobucket had over 2.5 billion (with a “B”) images online back then. I’m sure that they have a lot more now.

Compare and contrast that with less than 500 million for Webshots and less than 300 million for Flickr and the number is that much more impressive.

Of course, the social networking with these images largely is not being done at Photobucket, it’s being done at MySpace, but still, that’s a lot of friggin’ photos man.

The number two choice on MySpace is Imageshack, followed by Tinypic. Everyone else had less than 1%.
