Cox and Comcast’s TV Works Acquires MetaTV

TV Works Acquires MetaTV; Company Will Continue to Develop Interactive Applications for Digital Cable More development in the world of TV technology.

“TV Works, a joint venture of Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSA – News, CMCSK – News) and Cox Communications Inc., today announced that it has acquired the business and assets of MetaTV, Inc., a software services company. Prior to the acquisition, Comcast and Cox were investors in MetaTV. Additional details of the deal were not disclosed.”

It would appear that MetaTV is developing applications and plug ins similar to what you mght find as plug ins for Microsoft’s Media Center or for TiVo’s Tahiti initiative.

In light of TiVo’s recent agreement with Comcast this could show that Comcast is looking at multiple sources for future TV technology.
