CoolTechZone::Skype gets over 100 million downloads I used Skype yesterday to do an interview with Ian Dixon that will be on his Windows Media Center Show podcast in a few weeks. 100 million downloads is a big number but it’s easy to see why. When something works that well for free and offers an essential service that we used to have to pay for — well there you go.
It’s interesting that at CES Bill Gates announced that Windows Media Player — also something that is free and offers some pretty good features — had been downloaded 90 million times.
Once you get that price point to free it seems that for useful software the gates just open wide up.
