High Definition and the future of viewing | The Register I usually don’t have much use for The Register, but they are running a pretty comprehensive analysis on HDTV technology.

Thomas – what’s your problem with The Register?

  2. Thomas Hawk says:

The Register gets a lot of things wrong. I don’t really feel like I can trust their publication. I’m not sure if it is the writers and editors or their sources but sometimes it seems to get things wrong — really wrong.

As an example, on the eve of the big CES show in 2004 they came out with an article basically saying that Microsoft was dumping Media Center.

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/01/06/whatever_happened_to_the_windows/

In fact, not only was Microsoft not dumping it, they announced a major upgrade and Bill Gates himself came down to do the promo.

The Register was dead wrong while quoting “reliable industry reports.” I think that if a publication gets played by a hack or a competitor to try and damage another product that they ought to reveal their source for further examination.

A lot of hype and what not without substance.

This is the type of thing that taints the Register in my opinion.
