Skipping commercials on XP MCE 2005 I haven’t explored this yet but it sounds promising. Anyone have any experience with it?

dCut isn’t really for “skipping” commercials, it’s editing software that lets you mark sections to keep and remove. So, you can watch your 30 minute show, carefully mark where the show begins, the beginning and ending of each of the 3 commercial breaks, and the end of the show, and then have dCut process it and be left with a TV-quality, commercial-free episode.

For regular TV watching, it’s pretty much not worth doing (just use your 30-second skip!). For archiving your shows, buying a DVD set is probably cheaper in the long run, much higher quality, and much less hassle then recording and manually editing episodes all season long.

(Note that this is not intended in any way to belittle the efforts of the dCut author(s). It’s great we have software like this available to use. I personally have installed it; I just couldn’t find any compelling scenarios in which to use it.)

My wife likes to record shows when her favorite celebreties are making an appearance. I hate using up my HD to hold the shows so I use dCut to cut out the section with the star and then save it as a WMV. Instead of 10GB per hour it is extremely small and makes us both happy.
