San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom

Ran into San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom tonight at the Powell Street BART station. Mayor Newsom was out talking to homeless people who hang out and panhandle at the BART station with a few of his staff. He was trying to tell them about his programs for them and when I asked one of his staff members what they were doing he said that they were out on the streets of San Francisco talking to the people and trying to clean up the City.

It was interesting to see the Mayor out on the streets just talking to people. There were no reporters or TV crews or anything else, just him and some of his staff talking to homeless people mostly.

  1. It’s a pity the guy on the right looks like he just tripped or ate something really unpleasant. Great shot, though.

Lets hope Oakland’s Mayor Ron Dellums can take a hint and go out a and do the same thing in his town. Unfortunately, I just can’t see old Ron standing on a street corner in front of a liquor store chatting with gun toting gang bangers…

  3. There’s a lot about Newsom that is flashy and glitzy, but I have to hand him kudos for what he’s doing about San Francisco’s homeless issues. Unlike most of his peers in other cities, he’s actually doing something. And it’s not just window dressing or street sweeping. Now if our flash and glitz mayor could get off his camera-chasing, publicity-seeking kiester and do the same, that’d be something!

Great picture though as Aaron says, shame about the guy tripping in the corner.
I don’t suppose I am the first person to notice a correlation between Mr Mayor and Peter Petrelli from Heroes (if that’s not lowering the tone too much)?
