I know this is old, but I've been backtracking through the blog history and this topic struck a chord. A couple years back I tried to photograph the Shops at La Cantera a couple months after the construction was finished. It was designed by a local architect and, as an architecture student, I had an interest in the development of space and how the organized the "outdoor mall" experience. It was after sunset and the lighting was really striking. I had taken two pictures when a security guard rushed up and asked me to leave.

I asked if there was a problem and he said that no one was allowed to take photos on the property because there was a fear that, if they found their way to the internet, it could possibly mark the location for a terrorist attack. I scoffed at this and told him he was already in trouble then due to the hundred or so images the developer and architect had posted on the web. Not to mention the scans of the rendered floor plans the architect had released to the media and on the web.

I left, it wasn't worth being confrontational. There were still tons of people around and I wasn't going to make a scene. I really hope this issue was resolved. Photos are expressions of passed experiences. If you're going to create a place where people will have memorable experiences, don't be surprised if they desire to take photos.

Yeah, sounds a little one sided. I'm curious what it is that made them single him out. I'm sure Disneyland/world has lots of photographers on it's premises everyday and I can't imagine they treat everyone as such. Could there have been a complaint? Could it have been racial profiling? Could they have been alerted to something suspicious? Could they have previously been on a terror alert? Who knows. I doubt your friend will ever get the answer unless he seeks legal action but he could contact them directly and seek an apology. Or he could lodge a harassment complaint with the police. But the bottom line is that he too was uncooperative by not supplying his license (however unfair the request was)... I guess you have to give some to get some...
