I took Carl's recommendations and put together a basic Google Map.
Thomas,

After going through Tom Spaulding's photos, this is what I would look to shoot that night, all of which is in about a seven block radius:

* Crest Theatre at 10th and K (big neon)
* Cafe Ambrosia at 11th and K (small)
* Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament at 11th and K (Not neon, but very nice night photos)
* Pyramid Alehouse at 11th and K (small)
* CSAC Sign at 11th and K (Not 100% sure this is lit at night).
* Chops at 11th and L (small)
* California State Capitol at 11th and Capitol (Not neon, but nice night photos)
* McCormick and Schmicks (small) - 11th and J
* Jim Denny's - On 12th between H and I (Classic neon)
* Broiler at 12th and K (small)
* Esquire Imax on K between 12th and 13th (Big neon)
* Esquire Grill at 13th and K (small)
* Sacramento Convention Center fountains at 13th and K (Not neon, but interesting)
* Sky Bar Cafe (small) 14th between I and J
* Sacramento Memorial Auditorium - 14th and J (Not neon, but interesting)

Also:
* Hard Rock Cafe at 7th and K (the 7th and 8th blocks of K Street are pretty dodgy, just FYI).

You can probably a figure a good route from that list. There is a public parking garage at 10th and K that's open late and puts you right at the start of this list. I'll plan to be there, and I hope this helps.

Restaurants in the immediate area:
* Mikuni - Sushi, getting a group seated will probably be a problem.
Esquire Grill - Upscale California food, steak, probably no chance to get a group seated
Chops - Steak, expensive
McCormick and Schmick's - Seafood and steak, probably no seating available.
The Broiler - Steak, expensive, fairly small
Ella - Very good, very expensive, no chance of getting a group in on a Saturday night.
Pyramid Alehouse - American chain restaurant food - but they have beer and are relatively affordable, so this might be the best place for a large group.
PF Chang -

There are probably others I'm forgetting.

After going through Tom Spaulding’s photos, this is what I would look to shoot that night, all of which is in about a seven block radius:

* Crest Theatre at 10th and K (big neon)
* Cafe Ambrosia at 11th and K (small)
* Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament at 11th and K (Not neon, but very nice night photos)
* Pyramid Alehouse at 11th and K (small)
* CSAC Sign at 11th and K (Not 100% sure this is lit at night).
* Chops at 11th and L (small)
* California State Capitol at 11th and Capitol (Not neon, but nice night photos)
* McCormick and Schmicks (small) – 11th and J
* Jim Denny’s – On 12th between H and I (Classic neon)
* Broiler at 12th and K (small)
* Esquire Imax on K between 12th and 13th (Big neon)
* Esquire Grill at 13th and K (small)
* Sacramento Convention Center fountains at 13th and K (Not neon, but interesting)
* Sky Bar Cafe (small) 14th between I and J
* Sacramento Memorial Auditorium – 14th and J (Not neon, but interesting)
