Joey Lawrence is a 17 year-old kid out of Ontario Canada who is shooting with a Canon 5D. He’s building a great collection of fine art images. He’s got some especially strong portraits from a series he’s done with homeless people. He’s got a good FAQ on his site where he talks about his work and his techniques. Pretty talented for a 17 year old kid.

    What awesome photos Stephen is putting out. So incredibly narrative!
    1. I personally believe that photographs of people are far superior to any other subject. I’m not talking about porn, modeling, fashion, and the sex sh*t.
    2. Photographs of people, their personality portrayed…is just priceless.. People are so different than any other subject on earth-Example…if you lose your pet lama…its not going to be on the back of a milk carton.
    3. People are different. They are the image of God, every human is uniquely different!
    4. The other side of his work though…is of homeless. Homeless people (at least of the U.S.) are in a league of themselves. Homeless people serve absolutely no purpose. I have seen people in my town, on the side of the road, with a sign saying, “Furniture @ 60% off!”… That guy is making an honest buck! I thought about tipping the guy. However, across the corner (literally) a guy is holding a “Will work for food” sign-which in reality is “Will work for Jack Squat”…That is so disrespectful to the guy across the street. You lazy piece of crap! I’m not talking about the handicap either-I’ve seen them greeting at Wal-Mart. I have no respect for someone that doesn’t have the initiative to do a little to help themselves and their society. Instead, these sorry lazy people decide to be a burden on society.
    I hate to share this and Stephen be part of the blunt-because he shouldn’t, but in the U.S., don’t give a freaking socialist handout, and these sloths will go and be a part of the economy instead of draining it, or at least die! In a free country, we have a choice-if your choice is death, then so be it. Get real. Stephen keep shooting, you are great. If you chose to shoot useless people, I am sure there is a market for it. But, they are useless. How is that for irony?!

  7. the photos really are great. does anyone know how he gets such a distinct light on subjects? i’m talking about the light on faces vs background. is it post or a lighting rig?

  8. Wow! What great photography! This is priceless. The photos tell stories and depict emotions that words cannot capture…therein lies the beauty of this art. Nice to see the nameless members of our society with faces, stories, and emotions – real to all of us.

  10. Looks like some good photos…but, as a web designer, I’m automatically turned off by the flash based site with no HTML alternative. Wish he had a flickr page.

  12. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100% certain. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
