I tested this camera for a client. I didn’t have the light running for more than 15 minutes. The battery lasted approximately 6 hours before recharging. The LCD, however, had a few dead pixels - never saw this before. Tried returning for exchange and had to put up quite a fight. Anyone else seen this? laptop battery
Verizon is about the only place you can get the authentic RIM product and matching door. Most other sites are out of stock and even when they are in stock they have the black battery door which looks like crap. new battery
:)

We also have received a fully loaded Media Center PC from Microsoft as part of this campaign. People need to stop complaining - in reality, it really seems that those complaining are those who weren't chosen. It is COMMON PRACTICE from companies to get their products into the hands of those who review said products, prior to a launch. How else are you supposed to review them before they are available to the general public? This isn't just for the tech industry - Ebert and Roeper see movies - for free - before they are available to the public. Any problem there? Probably not.

Plus this is a part of something bigger that Microsoft is doing - the Vanishing Point game, where Loki is the one "planning" these giveaways.

yeah, I'll take one please. And I don't mind giving it back or away after I'm finished using it. I'd really love to preview Vista on a machine and not have to worry about crashing my family desktop in the process. If they really want some good reviews, they should give some away to the more "regular Joe" bloggers.

So if I'm a blogger and I order some food at a franchise resturant and they throw in a free cookie, am I then required to "disclose" this "obvious conflict of interest" in the future? If I don't then do I have no credibility?

Some bloggers like Scoble are taking this blogging bit way too seriously. We live in a world of influence from ads to paid promotions. Your ability to report the facts and your own opinion without being swayed by these influences is what makes you a credible reporter or blogger, not that you disclose every item you may receive.

Thomas, I sent this to you in a private e-mail but am posting it here as well.

Just so you know, Aaron had already published his name and the text of the e-mail he sent in the comments section to Long Zheng’s post. No one “outed” him.

Also, in my world, an e-mail sent to a member of the press from a representative of a corporation in their official capacity with that organization does not qualify as a “private e-mail” unless there is a specific agreement on that question in advance.

By the way, I think the Blogosphere has bigger ethical issues to wrestle with in terms of disclosing of stock ownership. I have a feeling many writers have positions that they fail to mention...

(I own no stock, only mutual funds - and actually the funds of funds with my target retirement date. I have no idea what their holdings are.:))

The email analogy sure is ironic. ;)

In the government space, I heard employees cannot accept any gifts larger than $10 from contractors. Something small like that.

I wish TiVo would have let me keep the Series3 review unit, but my options were to buy it from them or return it... Which is maybe an even stronger endorsement since I did paid up.

This raises another interesting point though. A decent amount of stuff I review is loaner hardware. So perhaps I should conclude each review with a statement of whether I would spend my own money on it or not. I might think something is awesome, but if I'm not willing to buy it that says something about it's usefulness or how it's priced.

Microsoft, if you're listening: I will be happy to review a Vista-packed laptop. I will also be happy to disclose I am keeping it... you know, for future research and all. ;)

I think you raise a very good point about reprinting private emails, especially knowing it will only get quoted over and over again.
