TiVo’s Latest Feature? Advertising on Demand

know | Future Advertising on demand arrives at TiVo

Me: So you mean like I can just see ads any time I want, without commericals that TiVo saves to my hard drive for me?

TiVo: YES!

Me: And did I hear right that exciting names like General Motors, Sony Pictures, Lending Tree (ohhh ahhh) and yes, Kraft Foods are amongst some of the first ads I’ll be able to watch on my TiVo?

TiVo: Yep, that’s right.

Me: Uhhhhhhh, no thanks. Hey, when’s that new Series 3 Standalone HDTV unit coming out anyways?

    You forgot…

Me: How much does this innovative feature cost?

TiVo: It’s included free with your monthly service charge!

That might actually be funny, except here’s an exact quote from the TiVo priority sign-up page: “Product Watch offers an easy way to find exactly what you are looking for. And, it’s all included as part of the TiVo service.”

CableCARD on Vista is starting to look more attractive…

Persoanlly I suspect I’ll use this feature. Well written commercials are definitely entertaining in their own right as the Super Bowl proves every year.

I know I regularly will stop and backup when fast-forwarding htrought commercials if something in that commercial catshes my eye.

It’s simple, if the commercials they have are lame they won’t get seen, if they are good they will, advertisers will figure this out based on the viewing number you know TiVo is providing them with.

This isn’t lame at all really. It’s actually the future of advertising, especially for high involvement products like automobiles. We go on the web to research a car purchase. And we often visit the manufacturer’s website when doing so. In effect, we’re choosing to watch a commercial, aren’t we? Many will see high value in viewing a well-produced video that shows off a car’s features. When the web comes to TV, it will be common to seek out product information in this format.

TiVo: This is the future pal, this is the future of advertising.

Me; Uh, when did you say that Series 3 HDTV was coming out again?
