In response to JoeFrontier asking how Allaire will drive traffic to the assets:

It's pretty clear that he's going to leave up to the content creators, by and large. Sure the BrightCove site will likely have a search engine, but that won't be the main marketing for (most of)the videos.

Look: he's just about said openly that they are a technology platform for video producers to go DIRECT to their audience. That's PRspeak for "we are the storefront, the producers bring the audience."

As an indie producer, that's fine by me as a start. I'd love to be able to offer direct and PAID VOD on my website, no waiting or hassle with DVD shipments.

Of course, the next interesting biz oppty will be those sites/services that help with the marketing end of it. The various video-searches (Google, Yahoo, etc.) will be part of that solution and the "tag" sites too (I can't believe that categorization has suddenly turned into some hot new sexy technology....).

What's needed is a collaborative filtering meta-search for video that instantly creates a customized selection of programs based on your interests...And gets smarter as you rate more programs and the overall sampling size increases.

Throw in google-style ad program (contextual and value-add) and now that's a business model.

Who knows, maybe Allaire is doing that too...

Hey Tom, Great interview. Other than Jeremy's opinions of HDTV, I think he's right on the money. I'd be interested to see how he's going to drive traffic to these assets. I think that's the real $64K question.
