Comcast to Enter Into Largest Set-Top Purchase Agreement in Company’s History
Comcast Extends Strategic Partnership With Motorola – Comcast to Enter Into Largest Set-Top Purchase Agreement in Company’s History; Companies Agree to Form Two Conditional Access Joint Ventures: Looks like Motorola’s gonna be making just a tad few more HDTV boxes coming out shortly. Worth noting is that part of this agreement includes Motorola’s MediaCipher technology, which they describe as “one of the industry’s most robust and secure conditional access technologies.” Sounds like DRM to me.
Anyone know how Micorosoft may or may not fit into these set top boxes? Can/will they run Foundation software? Will they carry the kind of bi-directional CableCARDs necessary to enable them to work with standalone HDTV TiVos or MCE units?
Thanks, Lost Remote!
